Diorama Update 14 – Maintenance Depot

Update - February 28, 2025

It’s been a few weeks since the last update and there are still a couple of spots left to fill on the Diorama.

In the bottom left I’m going to place an office building, and in the space where I was toying with a fueling station, I decide to go for a OO Scale Water Tower. Clearly disused in 1976, but it hasn’t been knocked down yet.

I had started to design one myself, but after browsing the Cults3d.com website I came across one from PJD1976, and at $3.45 (£2.67) it wasn’t worth my time to do it myself.

I pushed the brickwork tower to my Filament printer, and the water tank to my Resin printer because I wanted the higher detail.

Here they are fresh off the printers awaiting a bit of fettling to clean them up.

…and here is the brickwork after the first pass of the airbrush.

Coming along nicely…

Test fitting the two pieces together. I need to file down the base of the water tank a bit.

A piece of 2mm plywood cut to size and weather to resemble concrete.

…and here we have the water tower beginning the painting and weather phase.

First I airbrushed the water tank in a LMS maroon colour.

I dusted that with a VERY light cover of flat white to replicate the dulling of the paint.

Next was the weathering powders. For the brickwork I airbrushed a cover of brick red, then some well aimed bursts of Vallejo Grime Wash… and finally the weathering powders again.

You can see in the picture below I’ve stated work on the Water Crane. the dimensions on this one are wrong. The resin printer is churning out a new one as I type this.

I also closed off the tunnel. You can no longer see the garage door. That makes a huge difference.
